Youth Games 2008
|
The Torbay's gymnastics team were winners again. This years team, who have trained at the club for the past ten weeks, won gold at the youth games on Saturday 28th June. Amber Hughes won silver in Body Management,
This years team consited of Amber Hughes, Ava Andrews, Otis Skitch, Imogen Cox and Jordan Wafer.

Southdevon's Rachel Tucker Wins Award
|
Rachel was named Devon young female coach of the year 2007 at an awards ceremony in Tiverton on Thursday 8th May 2008, From this Rachel's name has been put forward by Active Devon to the Devon Young Acheivers awards.

Youth Games
|
The Torbay Youth Games Team for Gymnastics won the Youth Games team of the year award at this years Torbay Sports awards, held at the Imperial Hotel on Friday 2nd May. The team who trained with Nicci Tucker at South Devon School of Gymnastics were placed 1st overall at the games with Scott Robinson coming away with 2 individual Golds and Andie Field 1 individual gold. The team consisted of Scott Robinson, Andie Field, Christina Hillyer, Sophie Burgess and Katie
James. The team were presented with a trophy, certificate and medals at the awards ceremony by Phil DeGlanvile (England Rugby star).

Christmas Display 2007
|
On the 1st of December the club held it's first Christmas Display for many years, this was a great success. All the groups did a group display spread out over a full day. Other things were going on around the gym at the time with stalls, refreshments and a raffle. Some of the coaches entertained everyone with a routine to music. The 2008 Chhristmas display is set for the 6th December and we hope to make it even bigger and better.

Club Championships
|
This years Club Championships were held over the weekend of the 8th & 9th September with three competitions
being held: two on Saturday and one on Sunday. Over the two days a total of 101 gymnasts competed over a range
of age groups. A big thank you to Rachel and Nicci for organising the events, and to all the coaches and
volunteers who helped with the running of competitions this year.

Youth Games
The Devon Youth Games, postponed from 30th June, took place in Oakhampton on saturday 8th September.
The Torbay team won GOLD for gymnastics. The team came overall 1st with 2 members Scott Robinson coming 1st
on floor and vault and Andi Field coming 2nd on body management. Well done !!!
This is the first year Gymnastics has featured and South Devon School of Gymnastics was asked to
provide a team manager. Nicci Tucker took on this role, selected her team, and trained them every Saturday
for 10 weeks up to the end of June. Due to the conflict with the Club Champs the team was taken up, and led by
Rosemary Johns. The team consisted of Sophie Burgess, Katie James, Christina Hillyer, Andie Field &
Scott Robinson.

Refurbishment Complete
The refurbishment is complete & the gym open again.
A big 'Thank You' to all the Parents, Coaches and Committee who have helped out over
a frantic 10 days to:
get the Rotunda cleared, move the floor to Eden Park, sweep & clean, open the Rotunda up
each day, wait arround for scissor lifts, rub down & decorate the parents rooms & chairs, clean up again,
bring the floor back from Brixham, move all the equipment back, re-lay the floor, and clean up yet again.
Gymnova have now been in and serviced all the equipment.
We're now running as normal again. MORE PHOTOS ....

ROK to refurbish Rotunda
|
We are pleased to be able to inform you that we have been able to negotiate a new lease
on the Rotunda. The council have confirmed in writing the extension to our lease on condition we do some
work on making the facility safer.
ROK have agreed to undertake the remedial work required to the ceiling panels and smoke detectors in the
Rotunda. This will enable us to remain at the Rotunda for the foreseeable future. ROK are doing this work
as one of their 'community challenges'.

Katy goes out in triumph
|
Katy Johns, 33, competed in her last competition at Milton Keynes in the Special Needs Unit Gymnastics
competitions and came away with 4 gold medals. Katy's gym career has spanned 27 years. Katy started at our
club in the late 80's and started competing at National competitions in the early 90's. She has competed in
4 Special Olympic National Games and also competed all over the country including Northern Ireland at British
Gymnastic competitions. Katy was part of the National Disability Display Team for 7 years travelling to
America, Sweden, Portugal and Gran Canaries.
Katy has to retire from Gymnastics through illness, but she is hoping to assist coaching younger gymnasts in
the special needs class at the Club. Over the years Katy has been acknowledged numerous times for her gymnastic
achievements by receiving several awards. We wish her all the best for the future!

Rachel wins Devon Award
|
Rachel Tucker was runner up in the 'Junior Coach' category at the Devon Sports Awards held at Exeter
in May, a reflection of the effort and commitment that she puts into all the coaching that she does with
the club. Well done.

Club runner up in Torbay Sports Award
|
South Devon School of Gymnastics was recognised as one of the leading clubs in Torbay with a runner-up
award in the 'Community Sports Club' category at the 2006/2007 Torbay Sports Personality of the Year Awards
held at the Imperial Hotel on 26th April 2007. A number of coaches from the club attended the awards for the
evening. Nicci Tucker and Chris Hartt received the award on behalf of the club. We thank the Herald & Express

GymMark Quality Recognition
|
South Devon School of gymnastics has gained GymMark accreditation from British Gymnastics and
Sports Mark accreditation from Sport England.
The GymMark and Club Mark awards are only given to clubs which demonstrate that they can operate
as a safe, effective child friendly club, providing a service in the community that children,
young people and adults can trust. More ..
